Parent/Guardian Email Request

In an effort to provide another avenue for communicating upcoming events and other information to parents and guardians, the district would like to collect all parent email addresses. The district is requesting that parents and guardians provide their email address by using this Parent Email link to provide us with the information requested. Superintendent Search: Special Meeting of the Board of Education Sept. 30

(Sept. 22, 2016) At a Sept. 20 special meeting of the Board of Education, the board met with Questar III administrators to discuss the superintendent search.

"The Board will be seeking the services of Questar III to assist the District with its search for a new superintendent," Board President Anthony Welcome said. "We will keep the community updated throughout the process."

The Board of Education will meet with Questar III again for a special meeting on Friday, Sept. 30 to continue planning for the superintendent search. The meeting will be held in the Ichabod Crane High School library at 5 p.m. Meetings are open to the public.

Varsity Club Fall Awards Banquet Set for Nov. 3

(Sept. 20, 2016) The Varsity Club has made changes to the structure of the awards banquet this year. There will now be three award ceremonies, one after each season, and will also involve the JV teams from each sport. The fall sports awards banquet will be held on November 3 at 6 p.m. in the Ichabod Crane High School auditorium. Budget Newsletter Earns State Communications Award

(Sept. 15, 2016) Ichabod Crane Central School District's 2016 Budget Newsletter has been recognized by the New York Schools Public Relations Association (NYSPRA) with an Award of Merit in its 37th Annual Communications Contest. The publication was produced by IC Communications Specialist Mary Prusak in conjunction with the Questar III BOCES' Communications Service.

Odyssey of the Mind Informational Meeting Oct. 5

Community Invited to Heroin/Opioid Awareness Event at Chatham HS on Sept. 17

Results of Water Testing Reported to Board of Education & Shared with Parents

(Sept. 13, 2016) In a precautionary, proactive measure, the Ichabod Crane Central School District recently conducted water testing, not only for lead but also for copper. Approximately 275 water sources from every building were tested and the District received the results of the test in mid-August. At the Sept. 6 Board of Education meeting, Superintendent George Zini reported the results of the tests which did show some water sources with elevated levels of lead or copper within the buildings. The District has taken steps to address these sources to ensure that water is safe for consumption. Precautions will remain in effect until each identified area is remediated and retested.

"The safety of our students and staff has always been a priority," said Mr. Zini. "I can assure you that the District will take the necessary steps to ensure that everyone has safe drinking water available to them." Learn More

Primary School Kicks off School Year With Unity Parade

(Sept. 12, 2016) ICPS kicked off the school year with a school-wide Unity Parade on September 9th. Each grade level had been hard at work creating a motto that represents their grade. On Friday afternoon the school community paraded around the track to show off their motto as they joined together with the whole school community. IC Students' Artwork on Display at Columbia County Fair

IC wins 1st Place Grades 6-12; Student Itzel Rivera Wins Individual Artist Award
(Updated Sept. 2, 2016) At the school artwork display at the Columbia County Fair in Chatham, which runs August 31 through Sept. 5, Ichabod Crane took 1st Place for Grades 6-12 and Sculpture student Itzel Rivera won an Individual Artist Award for her Altered Book!
Over 100 works of art by Ichabod Crane students district-wide are on display in the Little Red Schoolhouse through Labor Day. A wide variety of subjects, media, techniques, and art historical references are illustrated throughout the exhibit. ICMS Art Teacher Jessica Mascolo installed the district's display. Hope you will get a chance to stop by to appreciate the fine artwork and unique visual expression of each IC student in this exhibit.

Ichabod Crane Seeks Residents Interested in Filling Vacated Position on Board of Education

(Aug. 18, 2016) Ichabod Crane Central School Board of Education has announced the resignation of Board member, John Chandler, effective August 8, 2016. Mr. Chandler’s term is scheduled to expire on June 30, 2017. The Board anticipates filling the vacancy in or before October. Residents of the District interested in being considered for an appointment to the vacated seats for the remainder of the term are asked to submit a letter of interest and resume by September 1, 2016. Board Approves 2016-17 Tax Warrant; School Tax Collection Begins Sept. 1

(Aug. 17, 2016) At its meeting on August 16, the Ichabod Crane Central School District Board of Education approved the 2016-17 tax warrant including the tax rates. The tax levy, which is the total amount the district will collect in taxes, is $22,451,460 – the amount voters approved in May. School tax bills are mailed out in late August. As in past years, all branches of the National Union Bank of Kinderhook will be collecting taxes during normal business hours. Tax payments may also be mailed to: Donna E. District to Use Visitor Management System

(Aug. 10, 2016) The Ichabod Crane Central School District will begin using the Raptor Visitor Management System in all of our district schools to build on the district's program of campus safety for students and faculty. The Raptor system will better allow us to track visitors, contractors and volunteers in our schools. Upon entering a district building, visitors will be asked to provide a valid state-issued ID, which will be scanned into the system.

A letter providing information about this new protocol has been mailed to parents/guardians. We are also making that letter available here as we recognize many visitors are grandparents and other community members. Download the letter

Superintendent Zini Announces He Will Not Seek to Renew Contract After June 2017

(Aug. 3, 2016) At the Board of Education meeting on August 2, Ichabod Crane Superintendent of Schools George Zini announced he will not be seeking to renew his contract which expires on June 30, 2017. Zini has served as superintendent since January 2013.

“I am very appreciative for the privilege I have had to serve as the Superintendent of Schools for the children, parents, staff and community of this great district,” Zini said. “Together we have implemented many educational improvements that have, and will continue to have, a positive impact on student learning in the ICC district. I look forward to continuing that good work in the 2016-17 school year.”

The Board of Education will discuss a search process at upcoming meetings.
