Homework

Here is a brief outline of what will be expected of your third grade student this year, with regards to homework.
  • Research shows that a third grade student should spend approximately 40 minutes per night on homework. This will include 20 minutes of reading, and then 20 minutes of another assignment.
  • Every child is expected to read for a minimum of 20 minutes on a nightly basis. This reading can be accomplished independently or with a parent/family member. The reading material can be self-selected, and should be of high interest to the child. These 20 minutes can be counted towards the minutes read for the Book It! Program if your child chooses to participate.
  • Third-graders will be provided with a Student Agenda, in which the homework assignments will be recorded each day. Students are required to show a parent/guardian their agenda, discuss the homework assignments and any related notes in the agenda, and then have the agenda signed by an adult. Please be sure to sign the agenda nightly, after checking your child’s completed homework, as the students will be held responsible for this.

Below is a tentative schedule/outline for the assignments given on a weekly basis. Your child may have additional work on some nights, if necessary.
