Senior Walk Through a New Tradition at IC
(June 22, 2016) A new IC tradition started on Wednesday, June 22, as our graduating seniors took a stroll down memory lane. They walked through the Primary, Elementary and Middle School halls where students and teachers cheered, high-fived and congratulated them!

Ichabod Crane's Smart Schools Investment Plan Approved
(June 22, 2016) Ichabod Crane is one of 36 school districts to have its Smart Schools Investment Plan (SSIP) approved in this next round. On June 20, Governor Cuomo announced the 36 SSIP's total $43 million of the $2 billion Smart Schools Bond Act. SSIP funds will provide enhanced security and many upgrades in technology.
Districts had to complete a process in order to have their Smart School Investment Plans approved by the state. The first phase of IC's plan totals $689,678. The District's total allocation is $1,309,134, which leaves the District with $619,456 to spend in the second phase. Plans for using the remaining funding will be determined during the 2016-17 school year with input from the District's Technology Committee. Learn More

IC Teacher Barbara Byrne a NYS "Teacher of Excellence”
(June 16, 2016) Ichabod Crane Central School District is pleased to announce that Barbara Byrne has been selected as a recipient of the 2016 Golden Apple Teacher of Excellence Award by Senator Kathy Marchione. This award honors teachers of “excellence, dedication and commitment that serves to inspire students to greater levels of achievement and success.”
Byrne has been employed by the District as a science teacher at Ichabod Crane High School since 1977. Learn More
Ichabod Crane Transportation Department Earns Excellent Passing Rating on NYS DOT School Bus Safety Inspection
(June 16, 2016) The Ichabod Crane Central School Transportation Department earned a 97.2 percent rating on a New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) school bus safety inspection report for the period of April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016. The DOT commends districts with an inspection rate over 90 percent. The District has a five-year average of 98.44 percent. Learn More

Primary School Celebrates Flag Day, Honors Fallen Soldier
(June 16, 2016) At its annual Flag Day Ceremony, Ichabod Crane Primary School celebrated Flag Day and honored the memory of Master Sgt. Benjamin A. Stevenson who was killed in Afghanistan in 2011. Master Sgt. Stevenson attended the Primary School and his mother, Ms. Laura Lang, wanted to dedicate the flag to the school in his memory. District Proactively Has Water Tested
(June 14, 2016) In an effort to be proactive, the Ichabod Crane Central School District has hired St. Peter's Hospital Environmental Labs to collect water samples throughout the school buildings and test those for presence of pollutants like perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). The District's buildings get their water from the Village of Valatie, therefore the district is not required to test it. Learn More

ICHS's Emily Farrell Inducted into National Technical Honor Society
(June 3, 2016) Ichabod Crane High School student Emily Farrell was among the 57 Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School (CTE) students who were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) recently. Emily attends the New Visions: Journalism program.
To be honored, students had to meet several criteria, including achieving grade point averages (GPA) of 92 or greater at Career & Tech, an overall GPA of 85 or greater at their high schools and had five or fewer absences. The induction class was the largest ever at Capital Region BOCES, executive principal Denise Capece told a standing-room only crowd of inductees, parents, teachers, school administrators and family members.
"You have gone the extra mile. You have left your home schools, come to the Career and Technical Center and learned new skills - all while maintaining academic excellence," Capital Region BOCES District Superintendent Dr. Charles S. Dedrick told the students.

ICHS Envirothon Team Competes in State Envirothon
(May 27, 2016) The ICHS Envirothon Team of Alexis Hoffmann, Megan Malanowski, Eric Papas, Bailey Lapo-McDermott, Max Zimmermann placed 17th of 48 teams at the 2016 New York State Envirothon at Hobart & William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY.
"The kids were really excited about how they did and looking forward to doing better next year," Coach Alissa Ferlito said.
ICHS Students Inducted Into National Honor Society
(May 18, 2016) The Ichabod Crane High School chapter of National Honor Society proudly inducted 47 new members during a ceremony held May 17 in the school auditorium. Membership in National Honor Society recognizes and encourages academic achievement and citizenship among young people. Patty Westover Recognized at Top Teacher Dinner
(May 12, 2016) Ichabod Crane Primary School Kindergarten Teacher Patty Westover was formally recognized as one of the Capital Region's Top Teachers at a dinner at the Glen Sanders Mansion on May 11. New Visions: Law & Government Students Win Northeastern States Award at National Competition
Area high school students make history by winning the region
(May 3, 2016) For the second consecutive year, the Capital Region BOCES New Visions: Law & Government team, including Ichabod Crane High School students Katie Gibson and Margaret Richards, has won a major award at the National “We The People: The Citizen and the Constitution” competition in Washington, D.C.
The 11-student New Visions: Law & Government class won the Northeastern States Award, besting 137 finalists from nine other states and the District of Columbia at the competition held April 23-25. This is the first time in the national competition’s 29-year history that a team from New York has won the award. Learn More
