IT Resources a corner stone in our District Education

The Summer time in 2008 was a busy one to say the least. The IT Department was engaged in some important upgrades campus wide. New hardware was introduced in every building and obsolete equipment gave way to new resources.

The 2008-2009 school year thanks to grant monies obtained through Senator Saland, has brought to Ichabod Crane students and staff a richer, newer and more complete network and technology environment.

A secured District wide Wireless Network access is now in place and allows for wireless computing. Multimedia carts which includes a wireless laptop, an LCD projector and a Portable Document Camera are now deployed on each building. In addtition the District is in the process of mounting another 40 new LCD projectors.

High School and Middle School student labs, and Libraries were recipient of new equipment. Additional wireless laptops were deployed in the High School and the Middle School. Middle School students have an additional new 25 PC Tech Lab which includes CAD software.

Of the now 800 plus networked workstations in the District, at least 60 percent of them are dedicated to our student’s learning experience. Smart Boards, LCD projectors, and new Document Projectors are becoming more and more popular across our District. Also networked printing is ubiquitous across the District.

Beginning in grade 3, each student participates with his/her own individual network student account and has the capacity to keep their work stored and saved on the District’s network.

In addition to a Windows environment and iMac lab, Linux and versions of the Open Source movement are available to some segments of our student population.

More accessability to IT resources also entails more demands on the Network and Internet access. At present the District is working on final details before implementing a new communication system that will at least quadruple the speed access to Internet resources.
