When the National Honor Society was founded in 1921, its objectives were to "create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in the nation's secondary school students." The purpose of the local chapter at Ichabod Crane is the same; to recognize accomplishments in the four areas while at the same time encouraging further growth in them.
