Mrs. J: I was graduated from State University at Oswego with elementary and art / photography
degrees. I’ve worked at Ichabod Crane for over thirty years, in the Glynn and Van Buren
buildings, for grades 3-5.


Mrs. W: I’m the 5th grade Special Education teacher and I co-teach with Mrs. J throughout the day, so you’ll be working with me a lot too! (I think we make a pretty good team!) I was a graduate of ICCS, as well as SUNY Geneseo. I’ve been at MVB and MHG for over twenty years. This is our twelfth year in fifth grade and we look forward to sharing it with you!


Fifth grade will be very exciting, with different activities for you to try. D.A.R.E., chorus, instruments / band, Arts in Ed workshops, Bagel Buddies, Journalism Club, Kinderbuddies, and Nature’s Classroom are a few things that are coming. We hope you heard about us too. Probably fun, wacky, and a little tough too! But don’t worry; we’ll do just fine together.


We send home a weekly newsletter, so you and your family know what we’ve done during the week, and what we will be doing in the following weeks. Your family should look for these each Friday to keep informed of important dates and events. In addition, the online "color" version of the newsletter is sent home if requested. (See the weekly newsletter for more information.) We welcome family involvement.  We invite your parents to write a letter to us, sharing your special qualities and needs. We would enjoy hearing from you as well!

Mission for the Class
There are several things we want our fifth graders to leave with. The first is to be
the best person you can be. We believe this can be done through respect for yourself
and others, while expressing appreciation and showing kindness daily. We also want
our students to gain self-worth, independence, confidence, and a true love of
learning! The journey might be hard, but it should be rewarding and at times, fun.
