Grade Five Expectations All students are expected to do all work in cursive writing, unless specifically told otherwise by the teacher. This is a NYS and ICC Standard. All students are expected to come to school everyday, prepared with something to write on, and something to write with. Students are expected to have addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts mastered for speed and accuracy, upon entering fifth grade. Mastery means 100 problems in five minutes with 100% accuracy. We will continue facts maintenance in class. All students are expected to take home any marked papers and show them to their parents. This is one way of keeping parents information a of student’s progress. A home folder will be provided and should be cleaned out nightly. Clean out book bags regularly. (Take home only what is needed. Do not make your book bag a “walking locker.”) All students are expected to keep track of their class and homework assignments by regular use of the provided assignment planner. This planner should be signed by a parent every day. All students are expected to come to school every day, prepared to go outside recess or an emergency that sends us outside (fire drill, emergency preparedness drill). Be sure to wear warm clothing: hat, gloves, and during snowy weather, extra pants or snow pants. A student will stay in for recess only with written parental request or by teacher decision. All students are expected to eat lunch daily, and should be prepared with either bag lunch or money to buy it. If lunch is forgotten, a student will be expected to borrow lunch money from the cafeteria to purchase a school lunch. |
