Ichabod Crane High School Announces January Riders of the Month

(March 10, 2015) Every month, Ichabod Crane High School honors students who demonstrate our school district’s mission and community values. The Riders of the Month program honors one male and one female for each grade level. These students have been recognized by high school teachers and staff for exemplifying what it means to be an Ichabod Crane Rider. They exhibit all-around good character, morals and demonstrate Rider values and Rider pride in the classroom, in sports, arts, music, volunteering in the Pre-K classroom and in the community.

We are pleased to announce the following students as Riders of the Month for the month of January:

  • Kyle Dugan – Grade 9
  • Ellie Plourde – Grade 9
  • Peter Volkmann – Grade 10
  • Liseth Gomez – Grade 10
  • Sergio Gomez-Martinez – Grade 11
  • Arianna Lopez – Grade 11
  • Bruce Decker – Grade 12
  • Elizabeth Cruz-Cruz – Grade 12

Here is what their teachers had to say about them...

Grade 9:

Kyle Dugan

  • Kyle is a very hard working student that is willing to take on great responsibilities that benefit our greater school community.
  • Kyle joined the Yearbook Club and took over pages of the yearbook during a time in need.
  • He has been diligent and trustworthy in his classes and in his continued involvement with the yearbook.

  • Ellie shows leadership and strong character in class, in sports and as a class officer.
  • Ellie is hard-working, conscientious and excels in her coursework.
  • Ellie is a pleasure to be around; she is always willing to lend a helping hand to others and is a positive presence around our school.

Grade 10:

Peter Volkmann

  • Peter is extremely respectful and does not hesitate to help others.
  • Peter is an honest, outgoing, and friendly student. He is extremely positive about his work, sports, and classmates. Peter leads by example in the classroom and on the court, always looking to perform his best.
  • Peter makes those around him work harder by encouraging them in a positive way. Although Peter is involved in sports throughout the year he does not let this interfere with his academics. Peter is an excellent scholar-athlete role model for his peers.

  • Lizeth is an excellent role model for our community. She is active on the school and community soccer teams.
  • Lizeth works very hard to study and perform well in school.
  • Lizeth is a leader among her peers and has been nominated to participate in a leadership program that recognizes the potential leaders in our Hispanic community.

Grade 11:

Sergio Gomez-Martinez

  • Sergio has demonstrated a fantastic work ethic both on and off the soccer field. In the classroom the underclassmen look to Sergio as an example. He is hardworking and extremely focused on his school work. Sergio brings determination and focus to the soccer field.
  • Sergio is extremely willing to help other students with work in their classes and he maintains a very positive attitude with his peers and teachers.
  • Sergio exhibits pride in his school, his team and his community.

Arianna Lopez

  • Arianna is very humble and unassuming but does outstanding academically and is extremely dedicated and responsible.
  • Arianna is always willing to learn and grow personally and she looks to benefit her peers as well. She recently offered to become a peer tutor.
  • She always challenges herself with a rigorous course schedule each year and constantly gives her all. Arianna is a positive presence in her classes and in the halls.

Grade 12:

Bruce Decker

  • Bruce is the manager of the Varsity Girls Basketball team which carries a lot of responsibilities including helping out at both practices and games.
  • Bruce is also an active member of SAVE and can be found every Friday morning in the 100 wing properly disposing of cans, bottles and paper.
  • Nearly every morning starting around 7:20 AM, Bruce can be found by the main entrance, holding the door open and greeting everyone as they start their day.
  • Bruce is a very proud member of the Ichabod Crane School District and is a consistent presence at events.

Elizabeth Cruz-Cruz

  • Elizabeth comes to school each day with a positive attitude and gives her best effort in every task before her. She is extremely conscientious when it comes to her school work, carefully completing each task.
  • Elizabeth is kind to both adults and other students. She regularly volunteers in the Pre-K classroom.
  • Elizabeth Lupe Cruz-Cruz is very willing to help students who are struggling and is extremely hard working. She spends her lunch time helping other students. She willingly does whatever is asked of her; whether it be helping a fellow student or staying after school to work on a content area.
