Opioid Overdose Rescue Training for Staff on October 3

(September 17, 2018) The Ichabod Crane School District and the Chatham School District are working with the NYS Office of Alcoholism & Substance Abuse Services (NYS OASAS) to offer a free training opportunity for staff on the use of Narcan to prevent a suspected opioid overdose. The training is on October 3 at Chatham High School from 6 - 7:30 pm. Learn more


High School to Host College Athletic Forum on September 25

(September 17, 2018) The High School is hosting a college athletic forum on September 25th at 6:30pm in the Auditorium. It's an informational forum to help guide parents and students though the college athletic process. We'll discuss rules and regulations of the NCAA, NJCAA and NAIA; what steps to take when interested in college athletic program; and give information on how/when to prepare for a college athletic career. Parents/guardians and students of all grades are welcome.


Update from Our Superintendent

(September 14, 2018) Michael Vanyo, the Ichabod Crane Central School District Superintendent, has written a letter to the community updating them on his current status while he is on medical leave. Read Mr. Vanyo's letter here.


Important Letter Home from the District

(September 12, 2018) Today we will be sending student's home with a letter about a perceived online threat made to the high school after dismissal yesterday.The Columbia County Sheriff's Department investigated the matter and found no credible threat to our schools or students. Open Houses Begin this Week

(September 10, 2018) Our Open Houses begin this week. First up is grades 6-8 at the Middle School this Thursday, September 13.

  • September 13, 6 PM – Middle School (Grades 6-8)
  • September 18, 6 PM – Grades 1 and 3
  • September 20, 6 PM – High School
  • September 25, 6 PM – Kindergarten and Grade 2
  • September 27, 6 PM – Middle School (Grades 4 and 5)

UPDATE: First Day Bus Departure Delay

(September 6, 2018 - 4 PM) Due to weather, power outage and first day complications, busses were delayed by 45-minutes leaving the campus today. They are currently out on the roads and students will be dropped off shortly. Power was out on the campus for close to an hour. Phones and internet were down due to this. We apologize if anyone tried to contact the district during this time period and did not receive an answer.


School Bus Ambassadors

(September 4, 2018) We are happy to announce the start of the School Bus Ambassador program, coinciding with our new single bus run. Ambassadors will be high school students, present on each large bus, who serve as mentors, role models and advocates for our younger students. They will help our younger students adjust to riding with older peers and serve as a channel between students and drivers. Students selected as ambassadors will receive community service recognition from the District.


PSAT Exams for ICC Juniors on October 10, 2018

(September 4, 2018) There will be a practice SAT exam for ICC juniors on Wednesday, October 10. This will also be a chance for juniors to enter the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) scholarship programs. Registration deadline is Tuesday, September 11. Learn more


Suzanne Guntlow Appointed as Assistant to Acting Superintendent

(August 24, 2018) The Board of Education has appointed Suzanne Guntlow as Assistant to the Acting Superintendent while District Superintendent, Michael Vanyo, is on medical leave in the coming months. Ms. Guntlow will be coordinating the day-to-day responsibilities and duties of the superintendent until Mr. Vanyo’s return later in the school year. Learn more

Board Workshop Meeting September 5

(August 22, 2018) The Board of Education has scheduled a workshop meeting for Wednesday, September 5 at 6:00 p.m. in the high school library. The purpose of this meeting is for the Board to discuss what items to include in the first-phase capital improvement project. This workshop will be a Board discussion only and no action will be taken at this meeting.


UPDATED: New School Start/End Times and Bus Arrivals/Departures

(Updated August 20, 2018) Because of the Ichabod Crane Central School District's new single bus run, school start and end times will be changing slightly beginning in the 2018-2019 school year. Half-day dismissal times and departures are also now inlcuded. Learn more

Elementary/Middle School Name Change

(August 20, 2018) The Elementary School and Middle School building will now be the Ichabod Crane Middle School. The building will still serve grades 4-8, but will now be known by one name. All information that was on the Elementary School section of our website can now be found on the Middle School section of the website.


Band Camp Concludes with Student Performance

(August 16, 2018) Today was the final day of Band Camp, a 2-week summer program where students interested in Marching Band get a jump-start on their routines before the school year starts. Students wrapped up the program by putting on an amazing performance. Much thanks to Mr. Richburg and everyone else who made Band Camp possible!
