Public Budget Hearing and Meet the Candidates Night May 10

(May 5, 2016) Residents are encouraged to attend the Public Budget Hearing on Tuesday, May 10 at 7 p.m. in the Ichabod Crane High School Library. A "Meet the Candidates Night" will be held at 7:30 p.m. following the budget hearing.

The annual budget newsletter containing details of the adopted spending plan and bus purchase proposition was mailed to all residents the week of May 2. The Budget Vote & Board of Education Election is Tuesday, May 17, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Ichabod Crane High School Gymnasium. Voting will take place by scanning-type voting machines this year, as required by law. For more information, please visit the Budget webpage.


No School May 13; School IN Session May 27

Due to the district’s one snow day April 4, there will be school on May 27. The district had cancelled school that day as a “give back” day. School will not be in session on Friday, May 13.


IC Music Students to Participate in NYSSMA Solo-Ensemble Festival May 6

(May 5, 2016) Several Ichabod Crane music students will participate in the New York State School Music Association Solo-Ensemble Festival on Friday, May 6 at Arlington Middle School. Tickets for the raffle of the 'Peaceful Rose Garden' quilt handmade by Beth Demers and Robin Sullivan to benefit the Roberta Rose Memorial Scholarship Fund will be sold until June 10 with the drawing being held on June 10 at the high school. Learn More


New Visions: Law & Government Students Win Northeastern States Award at National Competition

(May 3, 2016) For the second consecutive year, the Capital Region BOCES New Visions: Law & Government team, including Ichabod Crane High School students Katie Gibson and Margaret Richards, has won a major award at the National “We The People: The Citizen and the Constitution” competition in Washington, D.C.

The 11-student New Visions: Law & Government class won the Northeastern States Award, besting 137 finalists from nine other states and the District of Columbia at the competition held April 23-25. This is the first time in the national competition’s 29-year history that a team from New York has won the award. Learn More


Three ICHS Youth Ambassadors Attend Shattering the Myths Rally in NYC

(May 2, 2016) On April 20, ICHS Principal Craig Shull, Shattering the Myths advisor Maureen Sgambelluri and students Meredith Richards, Megan Kirby, and Alex Mangione-Smith traveled to NYC to attend the “Shattering the Myths” youth rally sponsored by Mentor Foundation, USA. In conjunction with the “Shattering the Myths” event, H.M. Queen Silvia of Sweden addressed the UN General Assembly Special Session, speaking on the topic of drug prevention among young people. ICHS Students Receive Awards at Capital Region Media Arts Festival

(April 26, 2016) ICHS students Hannah DeWeerd and Michael Foote were awarded at the 2016 Capital Region Media Arts Festival. Twelve artworks from ICHS students were selected to be a part of the festival that ran though April 22 at at the Bethlehem Gallery located in Bethlehem Central High School. Learn More


Board Adopts Proposed 2016-2017 Budget

Public Hearing May 10; Budget Vote May 17
(April 20, 2016) At its meeting on Tuesday, April 19, the Ichabod Crane Board of Education adopted the proposed 2016-17 budget district residents will consider on May 17. The proposed spending plan not only maintains all current programs, but provides increased student support in special education, enhancements to programs, and the purchase of new equipment to meet students’ needs.

The $38,133,987 draft budget represents a 1.55 percent increase in spending, the lowest budget-to-budget increase since the 2012-13 budget. The estimated tax levy increase is 0.67 percent, which is at the district’s allowable tax levy limit calculated under the state’s tax cap guidelines and the lowest in four years. Learn More

Four Candidates Running for Three Seats on the Board of Education

Meet the Candidates Night & Public Budget Hearing May 10
(April 19, 2016) Four candidates are seeking three (3) seats on the Board of Education. Each seat carries a three-year term beginning July 1, 2016 and is unpaid. Running, in the order they will appear on the May 17 ballot, are Michael Stead, Matthew Nelson, Anthony Welcome and Jeffrey Ouellette.

Board member candidates will be introduced at the public hearing for the 2016-2017 budget which will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. Following the hearing the Ichabod Crane Participatory Government Class will host a “Meet the Candidates Night.” Learn More


ICHS Envirothon Team Takes First Place at Hudson Valley Regional Envirothon

(April 18, 2016) On April 14, the ICHS Envirothon team placed first in Columbia County at the Hudson Valley Regional Envirothon, which qualifies them for the state competition in May. The five-member team of Alexis Hoffmann, Eric Papas, Megan Malanowski, Bailey Lapo-McDermott, and Max Zimmerman worked together to compete on five environmental topics: Soils, Aquatics, Forestry, Wildlife, and Current Issues. The primary goal of the Envirothon is to learn about the natural environment so as to become stewards of the land. Congratulations to the team and their advisor Alissa Ferlito!
