ICC Staff Basketball Game Tonight Feb. 11

Come out for an evening of fun and support the ICC Girls Basketball Program! The ICC Staff Basketball Game will tip off at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11 in the Ichabod Crane High School gymnasium. There will be prizes, music contests and fun for the whole family! Admission is $5.

Wrestling Sectionals

The Section II Division I and II Tournaments take place Saturday and Sunday at the Glens Falls Civic Center and ICHS wrestlers Brandon Gardner (2nd), Jared Kwarta (3rd), and Jerald Rhoades (4th) will be competing to qualify for the state tournament. Brandon has earned the #4 seed in the 138 pound weight class. He's also become the newest member of the 100 wins club with 119 wins. Good luck Riders!

Basketball Sectionals

Girls: IC claims the #15 seed in the Class B Tournament and will host #18 Bishop Gibbons on Friday, Feb. 12. The game will start immediately following the previously scheduled boys volleyball match that starts at 5:30 p.m.

Boys: IC gets the #7 seed and will host #10 Stillwater on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 7:00 p.m. GO RIDERS!

ICHS Music Students Selected for All County Music Festival

Community welcome to attend culminating concert March 4
(Feb. 11, 2016) Students from Ichabod Crane District-wide Music Department have been selected to participate in the second of three Columbia County Music Educators Association (CCMEA) All County Festivals. This All County Music Festival, which will be hosted by the Hudson Central School District on Wednesday, March 2 & Friday, March 4, include Elementary Band, Junior Chorus & Senior Band. The all county experience culminates in a concert at Hudson High School on Friday, March 4 at 7:30 pm. Doors will open to the public at 7 p.m. This event is free. Learn More

(Feb. 4, 2016) Six ICHS students were selected to exhibit their artwork at the 2016 Art in Three Dimensions exhibit at the Mohonasen Art Gallery at Mohonasen High School, on display from Feb. 1 - Feb. 25, 2016. 8th Annual Empty Bowls Supper Raises Over $1100 for Valatie Food Pantry

ICHS Student Artwork on Display at C-GCC 2016 Juried Art Show

Board Approves Preliminary Smart Schools Investment Plan

30-Day Public Comment Period; Public Hearing March 1
(Updated Feb. 3, 2016, Jan. 29, 2016) The Smart Schools Bond Act (SSBA) was passed in the 2014-15 enacted budget and approved by the voters in a statewide referendum held during the New York State 2014 General Election on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. The Smart Schools Bond Act authorized the issuance of $2 billion of general obligation bonds to finance improvements in educational technology, infrastructure and security. The total amount allocated to ICC is $1,309,134.

The Board of Education approved the District's Preliminary Smart Schools Investment Plan (SSIP) at its meeting on February 2, 2016. The plan is posted here for a public comment period of 30 days. The District will then hold a Public Hearing on the SSIP on Tuesday, March 1 at the Board of Education meeting. Once the Board approves the final plan, the District will submit it to the State Education Department for approval. Directions on how to submit written comments regarding the plan within the 30-day period are outlined in the SSIP.

2016-17 Budget Development

(Feb. 3, 2016) Ichabod Crane Superintendent George Zini provided the Board of Education with the latest in 2016-17 budget development at its meeting on Feb. 2. Current projections estimate the 2016-17 tax levy increase to be 0.67 percent, which is at the District’s allowable tax levy limit under the state’s tax levy cap legislation. Learn More

Moody's Investors Service Assigns District Favorable Rating

(Feb. 3, 2016) In its Annual Comment on Kinderhook Central School District, Moody's Investors Service has assigned an Aa3 rating to the District. According to Moody's, the Aa3 rating reflects the district's well-managed financial operations and sound reserve levels, moderately sized tax base with above average wealth levels, and manageable debt position.

"The district's financial position will continue to remain stable given conservative budgeting and healthy reserve levels," states the report.

“We are pleased Moody’s has consistently rated the District's financial operations with an Aa3 rating," said Superintendent George Zini. "It clearly demonstrates that the District’s careful fiscal planning has been successful in controlling debt, balancing budgets, and maintaining a tax levy under the State’s Property Tax Cap limits.”

Gifts Delivered to Agan Agans

(Dec. 24, 2015) ICC Community, You have made some kids very happy! On the afternoon of Dec. 23, the gifts for the Agan boys were delivered by Columbia County Sheriff David Bartlett and his deputies. Joining them were ICHS Principal Craig Shull, School Counselor Melissa Vooris and ICHS senior Melanie VanAlphen, who helped to coordinate gifts and the wrapping of the gifts at the high school Tuesday afternoon. ICHS Library Transforms into Gift

(Dec. 24, 2015) On Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 22, the Ichabod Crane High School library was a flurry of activity as the space transformed into Grand Central Wrapping Station. Ichabod Crane students (even a few alumni), staff and faculty eagerly volunteered to help with one common goal -- to wrap all the gifts donated by the community to give the Agan children a very Merry Christmas!

The community was SO generous that some of the items were given to Valatie Santa Claus Club to support its gift-giving tradition for local children.

Stuyvesant Falls VFW Post 9593 Announces ICHS Winners of Voice of Democracy Competition


(Dec. 21, 2015) The Stuyvesant Falls Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9593 conducted the annual Voice of Democracy competition at Ichabod Crane High School. Students submitted recorded essays on the theme "My Vision For America."

This year's winners were: Maryann Turoci, First Place, $300; Donald Rothwein, Second Place, $200; and Hannah Deweerd, Third Place, $100. Maryann Turoci was also the winner at the District level and will now advance to the State competition. Maryann also won first place last year and Hannah won second. Learn More

ICC Board Supports New Paltz Resolution on Common Core, APPR and Testing

(Dec. 8, 2015) At its meeting on Dec. 1, the Ichabod Crane Central School District Board of Education passed a motion in strong support of a resolution by the New Paltz Board of Education which expresses concerns over Common Core and testing.

In a letter that will be sent from the Ichabod Crane School Board to the Governor, Commissioner Elia, the Board of Regents and the Legislature, the board members say, “We must insure that the programs and curriculum supplied to our children, which will determine the future of our nation, are pedagogically correct.” Read the Letter & Resolution

Board Approves Instructional Technology Plan

District to Begin Work to Secure Smart Schools Funding
(Oct. 7, 2015) The Board of Education approved the district's Instructional Technology Plan at its meeting on October 6. The plan will be submitted to the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and work will begin on the Smart Schools Investment Plan, which NYSED requires school districts to submit demonstrating how Smart Schools funding will be used. The allocation of funding for Ichabod Crane Central School District under the Smart Schools Bond Act is $1,309,124. Learn More
