ICHS Math Department Runner Up in Texas Instruments Contest

(Nov. 12, 2015) The results of Texas Instrument's #ilyTIcontest are in and Ichabod Crane High School is a runner up! The Math Department recently entered into the contest in which teachers had to submit a 30-second video showcasing TI technology. Students and teachers from across the country shared why they love their favorite Texas Instruments (TI) calculator for a chance to win a classroom visit from Mayim Bialik, neuroscientist and star of the hit comedy “The Big Bang Theory," and one or more TI calculators for the school.

A message from TI stated, "We loved your video so much and LOVED sharing it with Texas Instruments ambassador, Mayim Bialik."

There was one grand-prize winner and 10 runner-up winners. As a runner-up, the Math Department will receive a TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculator in a color of choice.  The link to ICHS's video can be found here. Learn more and see the winning video here.

(Nov. 5, 2015) Eighth grade FACS students participated in many Community Service Projects to develop leadership skills and make a difference in their communities. Students participated in the following activities over their 10 weeks in FACS: Peer Tutor younger students after school, Volunteering at Barnwell, animal shelters and food pantries, and sewing pillowcases for the Ronald McDonald House. Great job students!

ICHS Music Students Selected to Participate in NYSSMA Area All State Music Festival Nov. 20-21

(Nov. 3, 2015) Eleven students from the Ichabod Crane High School Music Department have been selected to attend the NYSSMA Area All State Festival November 20-21 at Dover High School in Dover Plains, N.Y.

Students representing Ichabod Crane are: Chorus -- Alexis Hoffmann, Sorrel Rowley, McKenzie Rybka and Remi Schneider; Orchestra -- Felix Johnson; and Band -- Jake Barrett, Ama Boham, Daniel Curry, Ben L’Ecuyer, Eric Papas and Noelle Serino. Learn More

McKenzie Rybka to Sing at the 2015

All State Music Festival

(Oct. 29, 2015) Ichabod Crane High School is pleased to announce that junior McKenzie Rybka (All State Women’s Choir) has been selected to represent Ichabod Crane at the NYSSMA Winter Conference All State Festival in Rochester, NY, Dec. 3-6. In order to be selected to participate in the festival, students were required to audition on a Level Six solo, and sight read a short passage for a NYSSMA judge. Only the highest scoring students in New York State are selected to perform and be part of an All State Music Ensemble. After several days of intensive rehearsals, the festival will culminate with a December concert at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. Congratulations McKenzie!

(Oct. 27, 2015) Exciting news! Ichabod Crane Central School District has been selected to be a part of the “Hannaford Helps” Reusable Bag Program featuring the new bright blue Bag! For every purchase of the specially designed blue "Good Karma" bag through Dec. 31 at the Valatie Hannaford, ICC will receive a $1 direct donation! Thank you to Hannaford, and the community, for your continued support of our schools!

Board of Education Accepts Clean Audit Report by Independent Auditor

(Oct. 22, 2015) The Ichabod Crane Central School District has received a clean audit or unqualified opinion for the 2014-15 school year. At the October 6, 2015 Board of Education meeting, a representative from the District's External Auditors, West and Company, presented Board members with a copy of the annual Audit Report. The report, which covers the school year ending June 30, 2015 was unqualified, a good rating.

The audit report is on file in the District Clerk’s office and available to the public. The complete report is also available here.

Ichabod Crane Teachers’ Association's Local Action Project Team Coordinates Association-Wide Book Drive to Benefit the Valatie Food Pantry

(Oct. 19, 2015) Three years ago, the Ichabod Crane Teachers’ Association (ICTA) formed a Local Action Project Team (LAP) that has worked with NYSUT to improve the association in the areas of member involvement, community outreach, political action, and improving communication. Through LAP, the TICTAC initiative was born- Together, Ichabod Crane Teachers And Community. TICTAC’s mission is to fulfill the promise of public education and promote the welfare and well-being of our students, our members, and our community.

This year, the LAP committee will be focusing a big portion of their efforts on getting more children reading and getting children reading at an earlier age. On Wednesday, October 14, the LAP Team coordinated an association-wide book drive to benefit the Valatie Food Pantry. In all, 764 books were collected. Starting in November, when families visit the Valatie Food Pantry, children from Pre-K through High School will be able to choose a new or like-new book each month, courtesy of the TICTAC initiative. Board Approves Instructional Technology Plan

District to Begin Work to Secure Smart Schools Funding
(Oct. 7, 2015) The Board of Education approved the district's Instructional Technology Plan at its meeting on October 6. The plan will be submitted to the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and work will begin on the Smart Schools Investment Plan, which NYSED requires school districts to submit demonstrating how Smart Schools funding will be used. The allocation of funding for Ichabod Crane Central School District under the Smart Schools Bond Act is $1,309,124. Learn More
