Anthony Welcome will fulfill the remainder of Daniel Cohn’s term on the Ichabod Crane Board of Education, effective September 10, 2019. Mr. Welcome will occupy this seat on the board through May 19, 2020, the date of the next board election.
On August 20, 2019, Mr. Cohn announced his intent to resign from the board due to outside work commitments and the board officially accepted his resignation effective August 21, 2019. Mr. Cohn’s original term would have ended on June 30, 2020.
The remaining board members had an option to 1) hold a special board election 2) fill the seat by appointment or 3) leave Mr. Cohn’s seat vacant until the May 2020 board election.
After careful discussion, the board chose to fill the seat by appointment. As the district is currently searching for a new superintendent, the board felt an individual with a thorough knowledge and understanding of Ichabod Crane was the best choice.
Pending his acceptance, it was decided Mr. Welcome would be an appropriate interim member given his longtime past membership and recent departure (June 2019) from the Ichabod Crane Board. Board President, Matthew Nelson, approached Mr. Welcome with the offer prior to board’s scheduled September 10, 2019, meeting and he accepted.
