We are happy to announce the Ichabod Crane Board of Education appointed Lucas Christensen as Assistant Superintendent at their August 18 meeting. We look forward to Mr. Christensen joining the Ichabod Crane family when he begins his new role with us in September 2020.

Mr. Christensen comes to Ichabod after working for 20 years in the neighboring Chatham Central School District. In his time there, he was an instrumental and general music teacher before eventually making the transition to administration as their Administrator of Educational Services. He has an undergraduate degree from Ithaca College in Music Education & Performance, an MS in Educational Administration from UAlbany and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study from MCLA.

He felt compelled to apply for our Assistant Superintendent position when it opened up for a number of reasons.

Always an admirer of Ichabod Crane, Mr. Christensen worked closely with our district’s Music Dept. in his role as a music educator. He has been frequently impressed with the Rider Spirit on display in his encounters with both Ichabod students and staff. Through the years he was also impressed with the level of public community support for the district as evidenced by frequent voter-approved initiatives like our budgets and our currently ongoing Capital Improvement Project. Finally, he was enthusiastic to work directly with our current Superintendent, Suzanne Guntlow, who he’s known for a number of years due to being a fellow administrator in a neighboring district.

With a leadership style rooted in collaboration, he’s excited to meet and begin working with all of our staff, administrators, students and their families.

PS: We asked Mr. Christensen to tell us a fun fact about life outside of work: A big animal lover, he’s volunteered to be a foster parent for almost 40 rescued kittens in the last two years!
