The following message about NYS Grade 3-8 Assessments was emailed to all Ichabod Crane grade 3-8 families on Monday, March 29.

All school reopening news and COVID-19 updates can be found on the district’s Reopening Information page here.

Dear Parents/Guardians of Students in Grades 3-8,

As we mentioned in our last letter to you, the 3-8 tests are taking place this year after a full waiver was denied at the federal level. The state has waived the use of these exams for accountability purposes. Here at Ichabod Crane, we plan to use this as another opportunity to gather data to see where our students currently are on their educational journey and for use in future planning.

In response to our unusual year, NYSED has reduced the number of questions on the exams and reduced each exam to one session which will only have multiple-choice questions. For many students, the tests are designed to take about 40 minutes. However, as in the past, the exams are untimed and a break will be provided if needed. We encourage every student to take the state tests and to do the very best they can. Below is the schedule:

Fully Remote Students

Since NYSED is not allowing for students to be tested in a remote environment, we would like to offer the opportunity for our fully remote students to participate in the testing here on campus on the days that we administer the exam to their grade level. COVID protocols will be followed at proctoring sites and we are confident that we can provide a safe testing environment. So that we can carefully plan, please let us know if your child will be participating in the testing program by filling out this google form: https://forms.gle/ktGAkYFwPaQxZdfV7 by Monday, April 12. If you cannot fill out this form digitally, please contact the main office at your child’s building.

Information about the NYS science tests will be sent in a later communication.

Sincerely,
Lucas Christensen, Assistant Superintendent
Tony Marturano, MS/ES Co-Principal
Tim Farley, MS/ES Co-Principal
Andrea Williams, Primary School Principal
