The official start of spring is less than two weeks away and with it comes a much smaller chance we will need to use any more emergency closing days (“snow days”) because of winter weather.

Before the start of every year, we plan a certain amount of snow days into the school year calendar in anticipation of winter weather. At this point, we have not needed to use all our planned snow days, so I am pleased to announce the following “Give Back Snow Days” in the coming months.

-Monday, April 12

-Friday, June 18

As with a regular snow day, there will be no classes (remote or in-person) on these dates. April 12 will give everyone an extra day of Spring Recess and June 18 allows us to observe Juneteenth (June 19), which was designated an NYS public holiday in 2020 and falls on a Saturday this year.

June 18 was originally scheduled as a half-day for K-5 students, so we will move that half-day to an as yet determined date in June. If we need to use another emergency closing day before the end of April, June 18 would revert back to a normal school day.

This has been a stressful year for everyone in the Ichabod community and we are very happy to be able to give our students, staff and families an extra couple of days to relax.

Sincerely,

Suzanne Guntlow
Superintendent of Schools
