We are proud to announce that Emma Holmberg has been named the Valedictorian and Rose Holliday the Salutatorian of the Ichabod Crane Class of 2025!
For Emma, who has been a Rider since kindergarten, this honor is the culmination of years of dedication.
“I’ve worked really hard and it finally paid off in a way that was quantifiable,” she shared, reflecting on her journey.
She fondly recalls the teachers and friends who shaped her experience, particularly her fourth-grade teacher, Mrs. Mallery, who made learning exciting. “When math really started to click, it just felt different,” Emma said.
Her passion for math and science has led her to pursue a future in medicine, with a potential focus on cardiology. Currently enrolled in the Questar III BOCES New Visions Medical Program, she is taking a rigorous course load, including college-level anatomy and physiology and English. By graduation, she will have earned nearly 40 college credits. She is also currently shadowing doctors at Samaritan Hospital.
In addition to her academic achievements, Emma is a dedicated student-athlete, competing in volleyball, basketball and softball. She is also actively involved in school leadership, serving as Class President, Vice President of the National Honor Society and Secretary of the Habitat for Humanity Club, among other roles. “It’s nice to have an impact and see that student voices are driving decisions,” she said.
As she prepares to attend Cornell University in the fall, Emma is both excited and a little nervous. “I will miss my friends, but I look forward to what’s ahead,” she said.
Rose, who also has attended ICC since kindergarten, is honored to be named Salutatorian of the Class of 2025. She didn’t initially focus on class rankings, but once she realized she was second, the pressure built.
“It became something I wanted to see through to the end and achieve. I’m really excited to be the Salutatorian, knowing the hard work paid off,” she said.
Teachers and staff shaped Rose’s journey over the past 13 years. Mrs. Jermain, her fifth-grade teacher, made learning fun. “I remember making memory binders and leading our own parent-teacher conferences,” she recalled. “Mrs. Edwards and Ms. Eberhardt, the High School band and chorus directors, created a welcoming space. “They have always been teachers I can talk to. The music suite is a safe place and I’ve always enjoyed my music classes,” she said.
Psychology has become her passion and she plans to major in it in college. Courses in child studies, adolescent psychology and general psychology have reinforced her goal of becoming a licensed clinical social worker, focusing on therapy for children.
A competitive dancer since first grade, Rose is eager for the next chapter. “I will miss my close friends and Ichabod’s tight-knit community, but I know we’ll find a way to stay in touch,” she said.
High School Principal Craig Shull praised both Emma and Rose for their exceptional achievements.
“They have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, dedication and leadership throughout their time at Ichabod Crane. Their hard work and commitment to excellence have set a remarkable example for our students. We are very proud of them and look forward to their future accomplishments,” he said.

Su pasión por las matemáticas y las ciencias la ha llevado a buscar un futuro en la medicina, con un posible enfoque en cardiología. Actualmente inscrita en el Programa New Visions Medical de Questar III BOCES, está tomando una carga de cursos rigurosa, incluyendo anatomía y fisiología a nivel universitario e inglés. Para la graduación, habrá obtenido cerca de 40 créditos universitarios. También está actualmente observando a médicos en el Hospital Samaritan.
Además de sus logros académicos, Emma es una estudiante-atleta dedicada, compitiendo en voleibol, baloncesto y sóftbol. También participa activamente en el liderazgo escolar, sirviendo como Presidenta de la Clase, Vicepresidenta de la Sociedad Nacional de Honor y Secretaria del Club Hábitat para la Humanidad, entre otros roles. “Es agradable tener un impacto y ver que las voces de los estudiantes están impulsando decisiones”, dijo.
Mientras se prepara para asistir a la Universidad de Cornell en el otoño, Emma está emocionada y un poco nerviosa. “Extrañaré a mis amigos, pero espero con ansias lo que viene”, dijo.
Rose, quien también ha asistido a ICC desde el jardín de infancia, se siente honrada de ser nombrada Salutatorian de la Clase 2025. Inicialmente no se enfocó en las clasificaciones de la clase, pero una vez que se dio cuenta de que estaba en segundo lugar, la presión aumentó.
“Se convirtió en algo que quería llevar hasta el final y lograr. Estoy muy emocionada de ser la Salutatorian, sabiendo que el trabajo duro valió la pena”, dijo.
Los maestros y el personal moldearon el viaje de Rose durante los últimos 13 años. La Sra. Jermain, su maestra de quinto grado, hizo que el aprendizaje fuera divertido. “Recuerdo hacer carpetas de recuerdos y dirigir nuestras propias conferencias de padres y maestros”, recordó. “La Sra. Edwards y la Srta. Eberhardt, las directoras de banda y coro de la escuela secundaria, crearon un espacio acogedor. Siempre han sido maestras con las que puedo hablar. La sala de música es un lugar seguro y siempre he disfrutado mis clases de música”, dijo.
La psicología se ha convertido en su pasión y planea especializarse en ella en la universidad. Los cursos en estudios infantiles, psicología adolescente y psicología general han reforzado su objetivo de convertirse en trabajadora social clínica licenciada, enfocándose en terapia para niños.
Bailarina competitiva desde el primer grado, Rose está ansiosa por el próximo capítulo. “Extrañaré a mis amigos cercanos y a la comunidad unida de Ichabod, pero sé que encontraremos una manera de mantenernos en contacto”, dijo.
El Director de la Escuela Secundaria, Craig Shull, elogió tanto a Emma como a Rose por sus logros excepcionales.
“Han demostrado un rendimiento académico sobresaliente, dedicación y liderazgo durante su tiempo en Ichabod Crane. Su arduo trabajo y compromiso con la excelencia han establecido un ejemplo notable para nuestros estudiantes. Estamos muy orgullosos de ellas y esperamos con ansias sus futuros logros”, dijo.
