We are incredibly proud to celebrate our Ichabod Crane High School seniors who have earned the prestigious New York State Seal of Biliteracy (NYSSB) for the 2025-26 school year!
Now in its sixth year at Ichabod Crane, the program continues to thrive, with an impressive 10 seniors earning this high distinction this year.
The Seal of Biliteracy program is a rigorous and rewarding journey. To earn this distinction, students must demonstrate high proficiency in both English and a target language through a variety of measures.
“To earn the Seal of Biliteracy, our students did not just pass a test or memorize a few phrases for a vacation,” said High School Principal Craig Shull, at a recent ceremony attended by the recipients, staff, families and friends. “They proved high-level proficiency in English and another language or, in some cases, multiple languages. They researched, they wrote, they presented and they defended their work in front of a panel of educators.”

“For many of our students, this Seal honors their heritage. It celebrates the language spoken at their family dinner tables, passed down through generations,” Mr Shull added. “To take that home language and elevate it to an academic credential is a beautiful way to honor where you come from. For others, it is a journey of discovery. It represents years of starting from scratch in a classroom, embracing the vulnerability of learning a completely new language and sticking with it until it becomes a part of who they are.”
Our students who earned the Seal for proficiency in Spanish were advised by High School Spanish Teacher Penelope Walker and English as a New Language (ENL) Teacher Juanita Reyes. Our students who earned the Seal for French were advised by Superintendent Marie Digirolamo.

¡Estamos increíblemente orgullosos de celebrar a nuestros estudiantes de último año (seniors) de Ichabod Crane High School que han obtenido el prestigioso Sello de Biliteracidad del Estado de Nueva York (NYSSB) para el año escolar 2025-26!
Ahora en su sexto año en Ichabod Crane, el programa continúa prosperando, con un impresionante grupo de 10 estudiantes de último año que han obtenido esta alta distinción este año.
El programa del Sello de Biliteracidad es un camino riguroso y gratificante. Para obtener esta distinción, los estudiantes deben demostrar un alto nivel de competencia tanto en inglés como en el idioma de estudio a través de una variedad de evaluaciones.
“Para ganar el Sello de Biliteracidad, nuestros estudiantes no solo aprobaron un examen o memorizaron algunas frases para unas vacaciones,” dijo el director de la escuela secundaria, Craig Shull, en una ceremonia reciente a la que asistieron los galardonados, el personal, familias y amigos. “Demostraron un alto nivel de competencia en inglés y en otro idioma o, en algunos casos, en varios idiomas. “Para muchos de nuestros estudiantes, este Sello honra su herencia. Celebra el idioma que se habla en las mesas de sus cenas familiares, transmitido de generación en generación,” añadió el Sr. Shull. “Tomar ese idioma del hogar y elevarlo a una credencial académica es una hermosa manera de honrar de dónde vienes. Para otros, es un viaje de descubrimiento. Representa años de empezar desde cero en un salón de clases, aceptar la vulnerabilidad de aprender un idioma completamente nuevo y persistir en ello hasta que se convierte en parte de lo que son.”
Nuestros estudiantes que obtuvieron el Sello de competencia en español contaron con la orientación de la profesora de español de secundaria Penelope Walker y de la profesora de inglés como nuevo idioma (ENL) Juanita Reyes. Los estudiantes que obtuvieron el Sello de francés fueron asesorados por la superintendente Marie Digirolamo.
¡Felicitaciones a nuestros 10 increíbles estudiantes de último año por este logro sobresaliente! El bilingüismo es verdaderamente un superpoder, uno que continuará llevándolos muy lejos en sus vidas.
