GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Awarding of diplomas and local certificates and participation in graduation ceremony.

In order to participate in the graduation ceremony, the Building Principal must certify that the student has met one of the following requirements:

1. The student has completed the requirements for a Regents Diploma, including 22 units of school credit and the passing of specified Regents examinations. The units of credit must include the following:

  • 4 units of English
  • 4 units of social studies
  • 3 units of science
  • 3 units of mathematics
  • 1 unit of fine art (which can be fulfilled through Art, Music, Computer Aided Design(CAD)/ Design and Drawing for Production(DDP))
  • ½ credit of health education
  • 2 units of physical education
  • 2 units of study in LOTE including one credit between grades K-9
  • 2.5 units of electives

For an Advanced Regents Diploma students must meet the Reg-+ents Testing requirements and successful sequence in a second language as prescribed by the Commissioner’s Regulations, 100.5 – 100.7. The requirement for a sequence in a second language can be waived provided the student completes a five-credit sequence and three Math Regents exams, (Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry)

2. For a local diploma, students must have completed 22 units of school credit (as listed above) and have met the Local Regents exam requirement. Students must also have completed two units of study including one credit in a second language between grades Kindergarten and Grade 9.

3. Students who are classified under the Committee on Special Education are eligible to receive an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) diploma if they meet the requirements set by the Committee.

An official school diploma will only be issued based upon the completion of the Regents or local diploma requirements.

A high school diploma will represent termination of the District’s responsibility to provide additional educational training opportunities as part of the regular day program. Any student earning an IEP Diploma will be informed in writing of his or her right to attend the public schools of the District until one of the following occurs:

1. the student earns a high school diploma; or

2. the student attains the age of 21 prior to September first of a school year.

In the event that a student transfers into the Ichabod Crane School District too late to accommodate the scheduling of some or all of these locally mandated courses prior to the student’s projected graduation date, it shall be within the Principal’s authority to waive these local requirements as long as the student has met the New York State diploma requirements outlined in Commissioner’s Regulations Section 100.5.
