2025 Board of Education Candidate Statements

Elizabeth Phillips

As I close in on six years as a member of the Ichabod Crane Central School BOE, I can truly say it has been an honor to serve in this capacity. As a proud Ichabod Crane graduate with three children of my own in the district, I have never felt more compelled to continue the great work that has been happening in our schools.

I am committed to this community and the Ichabod Crane School District and believe it is important that we engage in big picture decision making for taxpayers, while also maintaining and growing the excellent school district that we currently have. It is not only the children in our area, but all community members who benefit from a premiere school district.

If re-elected, I would continue to work to contain operational costs while also enhancing student outcomes. As not only a former ICC student, but also a taxpayer and parent, I believe I have a well-rounded perspective.

I will maintain my commitment to asking the hard questions and working with parents and community residents to grow successful programs for students that we can continue to be proud of.

Ichabod Crane is an exemplary educational institution, and it has been my distinct honor and privilege to serve on the Board of Education for the past nine years.

As a parent of three students at ICC and a steadfast advocate for public education, I believe there is no better way to give back to our community and contribute to shaping the future of its attendees than through continued service on the board. Over recent years, we have encountered periods of adversity and unforeseen challenges. However, by working collaboratively and viewing these obstacles as opportunities, our District has made significant progress towards advancing our mission and achieving our goals. Our focus has consistently remained on the paramount objective – enhancing the opportunities available to our student body and collectively preparing our students to become successful and contributing members of society in our dynamic world.

I take immense pride in the contributions we have made as the Board of Education to the success of our students through the ongoing growth and improvement of our schools. I would be deeply honored to receive the support of the community to serve another term and respectfully request your vote on May 20th.

I am an alumna of the Ichabod Crane Class of 1999. I reside in Valatie with my husband and five children.

I am a veteran who has served in the New York and South Carolina National Guards. I have degrees in Early Childhood Education and Human Services Management. Until recently, my entire career involved working with children, accepting roles as Teachers Aide, Head Teacher, School Director, and School Board member. I also have experience in Children’s Mental Health and Child Protective Services. After spending 11 years at home raising my children, I have recently returned to work as the Deputy Clerk for the Village of Kinderhook.

I have thoroughly enjoyed serving our community as a school board member. I want to continue to ensure that all students receive the education and guidance they deserve to be successful in their future endeavors, be it higher education, trades, or entering the workforce.
