Ichabod Crane Primary School was recently named a Top Elementary School by U.S. News, ranking in the top 30% of elementary schools in New York State. It ranked 470 out of 2,221 schools in the state, with reading performance well above expectations and math performance that met expectations.

“It is humbling to be recognized as one of the top elementary schools in the state,” said Principal Andrea Williams. “We would not have achieved this honor without the dedication of our amazing faculty and staff nor the support of our district administration. I am pleased to share this achievement with our students, staff and community. It is a testament to the passion and pride we have for the work we do not just in our building, but throughout the district.”

“We are so proud to be recognized for the education we offer to our youngest students,” said Superintendent Suzanne Guntlow. “Data shows again and again the importance of the first years of a child’s education, and this is a well deserved honor for the entire faculty and staff at the Primary School. I am excited to showcase the expertise and dedication of our team with this achievement.”

How U.S. News Calculated the Rankings:

For each state, schools were assessed on their pupils’ proficiencies in mathematics and reading as measured by state assessment tests. Half of the ranking formula was the results themselves’ the other half was the results in the context of socioeconomic demographics. In other words, the top-ranked schools are high achieving ones that succeeded in educating all of their students. All data for the rankings are from third-party sources, including the U.S. Department of Education.
