Students undergo weight and height measurements during their required school health examinations. These measurements are used to calculate the Body Mass Index (BMI), a metric that aids health care professionals in assessing whether a student’s weight falls within a healthy range. New York State Education Law requires that BMI and weight status group be included as part of the student’s health examination.
Ichabod Crane CSD was selected and is required to report the aggregated information from school health certificates/appraisals of students in K, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 in the previous school year (2022-2023).
No names or information about individual students are included. This information will assist NYS health officials in the development of children’s health programs.
If you do not wish to have your child’s weight status data included as part of the Health Department’s survey this year, please contact your child’s health services office.
