At the April Board of Education meeting, we had the honor of presenting Ichabod Crane High School diplomas to four veterans who were a part of the Ichabod Crane community but were unable to receive a diploma due to their service to our country. This was possible due to New York State’s Operation Recognition, a program of the NYS Division of Veterans’ Services.

One of those veterans we honored at the April BOE meeting was Corporal Clifford S. Johnson. He went missing in action during the Korean War and his remains were recently discovered, then flown home to Valatie.

On May 20, there was a procession for Cpl. Johnson beginning at the Bond Funeral Home in Valatie and ending at the Saratoga National Cemetery. The procession route went directly by Ichabod Crane High School, so our students and staff gathered outside along Route 9 to pay their respects to Cpl. Johnson. Our High School Band was even able to put together a very patriotic performance for the procession as they passed by. We invite you to watch a short video and look through pictures of the procession for Cpl. Johnson as it passed Ichabod Crane High School yesterday. It was a great honor and privilege for our district to participate in this event marking Cpl. Johnson’s long road back home to Valatie.
