We are happy to bring to you our 5th Annual ICC Primary School Family Holiday Tradition of helping local families enjoy a happier Christmas. This year will be a bit different in that we will have both angels for gifts and gingerbread boys and girls for food items on our tree in the lobby.
This is such a wonderful way to teach our children the idea of generosity and the importance of giving during the holiday season ~~ also that it’s not really the size of the gift that matters, but that it is given in the spirit of community and caring.
There are white angels on the tree labeled with a gift for a particular child. It could be something they want, something they need, something to wear or something to read. We ask that you wrap the gift, put the angel on the outside and return it to school no later than Wednesday, December 14th. We also have gingerbread boys and girls with food items on them for each family. Please return the food item unwrapped with the gingerbread boy or girl attached no later than Wednesday, December 14th.
If your child has your permission, he or she may select one or more angel or gingerbread boy or girl from the tree in the lobby. Please be sure each item in returned to school with the angel or gingerbread boy or girl attached on or before Wednesday, December 14th.
As always, thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. We have such a giving school community! If you have any questions, please feel free to call Mrs. Nichols at 758-7575, Ext. 6002.
(Nov. 8, 2016) The Primary School has wrapped up their "election" in the Primary School Library. All students were invited to vote for whether they thought fiction books (from the author's imagination) or nonfiction books (texts that are informational) are the best for our school. Second and third graders made campaign posters for the "candidate" of their choice and presented their posters to their classmates. These persuasive posters were also shared with the kindergartners and first graders. The ballots have been counted and the results are in: fiction books received 229 votes, nonfiction received 224 votes.

Ms. Kaufman Orloff is speaking with our second and third graders about how a book is created from the idea in a writer's head to a published book. She is reading a couple of her books to students and working with the third graders on writing exercises.
Thank you to the ICC PTA for supporting this visit through its Arts & Enrichment program.

For several years, we at the Primary School have had a weekly collection for the Valatie Food Pantry to assist our friends in the community who may need a helping hand. It has been a huge success, and the Food Pantry counts on us to help keep their shelves full throughout the year!
Won't you please consider picking up an extra item or two each week to put in the collection box in the lobby? Pick up is every Friday! It's a great way to teach your child about generosity and helping others in our own community. View the flyer
